1. The MPOA dredged sediment marketing investigations continue. The soil testing lab results have been forwarded to a soil scientist who will hopefully be able to provide insight as to the best potential use of the accumulated sediment, or whether there may be soil amendments that could be added that would result in a higher quality product, with a higher price point in the marketplace.

May 5, 2024 Wonder Lake Sportsman Club Bass Derby — Thank you to Horizontals and Miller Brewing Company for the trophies at the annual Sportsman Club Bass Derby this year. The event was a great success. Lots of fish caught and many winners out on the water.
1. The Wonder Lake Fire Department attempted to conduct a controlled burn at the Wonder Lake Sediment Drying Facility in order to reduce weedy growth, however, the damp weather conditions limited how much could be burned off. Thanks again to the WLFD for their on-going efforts to assist in this activity.
The Wonder Lake Community Club thanks everyone who was a part of the Egg Hunt!! About 150 neighborhood kids had fun looking for eggs this year. Thank you to Robbie S for being the Easter Bunny, thank you to the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District for bringing the truck, your families and the fire dog. And thank you to the Wonder Lake Community Club, the Wonder Lake Police Department, Sweets In Heaven Mini Pancakes, Diesel Brew, Brooke (decorations), Samantha (photographer) for your support!
Ice Fishing Derby a huge Success! Even without ice, approximately 125 people attended the Ice Fishing Derby Raffle at Alibi Pub and Grill for the meat raffle, 50/50 and Big 3 prizes. All the money raised will go towards the Club's lake conservation efforts. Big Thanks to the entire Bruschaler Family and all of the volunteers for making the Derby Raffle such a success. One of the benefits of money raised: Thursday, March 14th, approximately 250, 10-14" musky will be placed in the lake.
1. The Illinois Lake Management Association (ILMA) is hosting its annual conference at the I-Hotel & Conference Center in Champaign from March 4th through March 6th, 2024. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Trent Ford, Illinois State Climatologist, who will discuss Climate Change and Water Resources in Illinois. Registration info can be found at ILMA-Lakes.org
No ice for the Derby - but join the fun and Raffle at Alibi’s!
The Ice Fishing Derby is officially cancelled due to the warm weather. But there’s good news! There will be an Ice Fishing Derby Raffle at Alibi Pub and Grill on Sunday, February 18th from 12-4. In addition to the Green raffle tickets 1st Prize $1,000 Gift Card to “Butcher on the Block”, there will be numerous meat raffles, 50/50 raffles, and more. You can purchase raffle tickets at the door.
1. With single digit temperatures forecast starting this weekend, we might finally be heading towards “safe ice”. As such, this is a good time to remind winter lake users about the need to exercise particular care when venturing out on the ice as it does form. The MPOA website (wlmpoa.org) has a video posted on how someone falling through the ice can perform a "self-rescue". Winter lake users are also reminded of the presence of the rip-rap collars around O'Brien Shoals and Wickline Island, and that ice formation may have changed in those areas of the lake that had been dredged.

Let’s get to know Brad Dennison. My grandmother bought a lakefront house in Sunrise Ridge subdivision in the 80s when I was just a little kid. It was a weekend house and we spent as many summer weekends as we could there. Then even when the lake would freeze we spent some winter weekends up there as well.
