1. The Wonder Lake Fire Department attempted to conduct a controlled burn at the Wonder Lake Sediment Drying Facility in order to reduce weedy growth, however, the damp weather conditions limited how much could be burned off. Thanks again to the WLFD for their on-going efforts to assist in this activity.
2. The MPOA dredged sediment marketing investigations continue. The intent of this testing is to begin to determine the overall quality of the dried sediment, and whether there is the possibility of marketing the sediment as something more than just topsoil by the truckload. The MPOA hopes to use sediment sales to potentially fund future dredging efforts and is hoping to maximize the sediment value The sediment testing has been completed, and the soils committee is reviewing the data, and will be reaching out to soils experts for their interpretation of the results.
3. Some concerns have been raised about the navigability of the Meadows of West Bay boat channel, which was dredged in 2018, due to the presence of silt that has since collected on the bottom of the channel. It has been suggested that the complete lack of boat traffic in the channel until the MOWB ramp access that was finally completed last year contributed to any silt accumulation, and that the future increased use of the boat ramp will generate enough prop wash to keep the channel accessible. The MPOA is currently investigating ways of determining the current water depths of the dredged MOWB boat channel leading out to the main body of the lake. A couple of options are being explored. These could include using a vendor of lakebed (bathymetric) mapping equipment, manual probing, or to use existing WL resources who have high resolution depth finders. The photo below shows the MOWB boat channel during the 2019 lake drawdown, when the lake level was down 2’ +/-.
