January 2026 newsletter

Welcome to new MPOA President Ray O’Brien
Happy New Year all! As we say farewell to Brad Dennison, who’s stepped down, we welcome a familiar face in Ray. As a fourth generation Wonder Laker, most of Wonder Lake knows Ray and/or his family. O’Brien Shoals was named after his great grandparents and he has so many memories of ski shows, windsurfing, snowmobiling, fireworks, and having penny candy at his grandparents grocery store just to name a few.

Lake Manager’s Report — December 2025

1. With our early winter cold snap, the lake has definitely iced up. As such, this is a good time to remind winter lake users (and particularly children) about the need to exercise particular care and caution when venturing out on the ice when it does form. On the following page is some information on General Ice Thickness Guidelines. The MPOA website (wlmpoa.org) also has a video posted on how someone falling through the ice can perform a "self-rescue".

Happy Holidays from the MPOA

Reminder to All Village Residents: Please do not park on the road during snowfall. This helps snowplows and emergency vehicles keep roads safe and clear. Additionally, do not shovel or snow blow snow into the street. Pushing snow back onto the road creates hazards and slows down plowing operations. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe and accessible!

Lake Manager’s Report – October 2025

1. The annual inspection of the Wonder Lake Dam and Sediment Drying Facility required by the State was conducted on October 3rd. In addition to MPOA and Village representatives, there were two engineers from the State, and three engineers from the MPOA engineering firm. All were favorably impressed by the on-going maintenance of these facilities. The accompanying engineering report which must be submitted to the State is expected by the end of the month, at which time it will be posted on the MPOA website.
