- The invoice for the Wonder Lake Dam sluice gate repairs and upgrades was received, reviewed, and approved for payout. The contractor’s proposal cost estimate was $102,308, and the final invoiced amount was $123,073. The primary cause of the increase was the need for an additional dive crew workday above what was originally estimated, as well as the increase in the cost of the steel needed for the sluice gate protective structures.
- The annual inspection of the Wonder Lake Dam and Sediment Drying Facility has been tentatively scheduled for October 16th, 2026. This will be the first opportunity for the State and MPOA engineers to view the recent repairs and upgrades to the sluice gates.
- With a long-range forecast for a warmer than average summer and fall, it’s important to keep in mind that in-lake nutrients, heavy rainfall, and hot temperatures are the main triggers for significant algae blooms to occur. In these conditions, there is also the potential for an out-break of Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs). A HAB algal bloom can be green, blue, red or brown, and can be scummy or look like paint on the surface of the water. Representative photos of HABs are available at the below links.
It’s also important to know that dogs in particular can be severely impacted by encountering and ingesting harmful algae.
