1. The MPOA has been in contact with the firm under contract to do the repairs and upgrades to the Wonder Lake Dam Sluice Gates. They are currently finishing up some other projects but are tentatively looking at getting our project underway by mid-April.
2. The highly variable weather we’ve been experiencing in late winter has finally produced some much-needed precipitation, roughly 1.6 inches over the past month, as shown at right.
3. This is welcome given that McHenry County is still rated by the U.S. Drought Monitor website (droughtmonitor.unl.edu) as being Abnormally Dry. (below right)
4. As shown below, the long-term average Nippersink Creek streamflow for the last 30 days is around 60 cubic feet per second (cfs). For much of the last month, that average has been closer to only 20 cfs; roughly 66% lower than average flows this time of year. The rainfall last weekend and last night has gotten streamflow back towards more average flows.

5. North Carolina State University has published an article that describes how individuals can undertake practices and projects to help improve and protect the water quality of stormwater runoff before it reaches a stream, river or lake.
